The house is built at the edge of a small village Pererenan in the Canggu area. The beach is at 5 minutes walking distance. It is supposed to be one of the best surf spots of Bali. But it is still very quiet. There are two or three small beach houses, where you can buy a beer or a coca cola. The current is rather strong, but there is a spot on the beach where swimming is possible. You always have to be very careful though. The village has a few small warungs for groceries. The village is typical Balinese. Tourism has not yet penetrated. Yet the hot spots are not very far. Seminyak: 15 minutes by car, Kuta, at 20 minutes. The airport is at 25 minutes drive. To the northwest, at 20 minutes by car from the villa, you will find the golf links of Tanah Lot, in 2002 chosen as the best in Asia.

The servant guards Villa Adinda, works in the garden and takes care of the house and the guests. The garden is planted with a selection of beautiful indigenous plants, flowers, and trees. The two temples for the gods offer spiritual protection. A few steps lead from the house to the terrace with lounge-chairs, two swimming-pools and a lotus pond. The pool for the children is 2,5 x 8 m en 40 cm deep. The big pool is 9 x 13 m and 1.60 deep. At the corner of the big pool is the Baleh bengong, a small covered typical Balinese outhouse.

The house is built on three levels. Downstairs: a big (120 m2) living/dining room with open kitchen, television, stereo, antique couch and a very comfortable antique Javanese bed. Dining table with eight chairs. Small bedroom, one bed, with air conditioning. WC. Scullery with washing machine and dryer. View of sea, sawahs and clouds permitting: the mountains. Telephone.

On the first floor: two big bedrooms, each decorated in its own style, both with air conditioning, big harmonica windows, a large covered balcony with lazy chairs. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with bath, shower, washstand and toilet. Each bedroom has television, telephone and a small safe for your valuables. The beds (1.80 wide) are provided with a mosquito-net. View of sea, sawahs, and mountains.

On the second floor: under the beautiful and impressive wooden Balinese ceiling you find a studio with bed (1.80 wide), a large walk-in closet, a complete bathroom, air-conditioning, television, telephone, safe, Frigidaire, big covered balcony with lazy chairs, a desk and an even more stunning view. Don't forget to bring your laptop to use the (paid) wireless broadband internet access.

Villa Adinda Services
Hiring a villa offers many advantages. It gives more space, more comfort, more privacy and more service than staying in a hotel. If you add up all those advantages, it is even cheaper, especially renting a villa for the whole family.

There is a permanent staff at the premises for security and service. ‘Security’ sounds as if criminality is prolific on Bali. That is not true.The terrible bombings of 2002 were also a violation of the essentially peaceful Balinese society. It gives you a safe feeling though that your properties and valuables are protected. The house, garden en swimming pool are kept clean, the laundry is done for you, if you wish. The servants bring offerings to the gods. Tell the servant every morning what you want to eat and drink, give him/her shopping money and he takes care of the contents of the fridge. Your meal will be served at the time you decide to eat. If you do not want to eat at home, you don’t eat at home. If you want to do your own shopping, you do that. If you want to do the cooking yourself, then you do it yourself. It is that simple. The staff is invisibly present. They are proud to make your stay as pleasant as possible without disturbing your privacy. The villa and the servant’s house are built so that staff and inhabitants do not live in each others view. Some Balinese servants speak reasonable English, some others only have a few words, but communication will always be possible between inventive and good-natured people. The manager of the villa, who speaks English, is always available by telephone. On a festive day, a holiday or during ceremonies in the village, a funeral or a marriage, where all the villagers should be present, the staff will have to fulfill its religious duties. It is also for you as a guest a very special occasion to be witness to a real ceremony. Balinese people are very hospitable.
The rent of the villa includes the salary of the staff, electricity, water, gas, gardener, local taxes, etc. The groceries etc. are for your account. Linen and towels are of course included. At the end of your stay it is customary to give the staff a bonus for services rendered.

Body Massage has been a part of the Balinese culture for many centuries. Most Balinese men go for what they call a Bali Massage [kerok], on a regular basis. For a Westerner it would be rather a horrific experience as coins and small wooden balls are used to scrape and rub up, down and across the person's back. Often upon completion the entire skin surface is one enormous bruise from the bleeding that has been caused under the skin by this strange form of massage. The Balinese love it!

A modified technique has been developed over the years that still provides a deep and penetrating massage but is done using the heel of the hands, combined with fingers and elbows. This is what today is normally referred to as a Traditional Balinese Massage in the Spas of Bali, and throughout the rest of the world.

The surfing fraternity discovered the beaches of Bali in the 1950's. Soon Balinese women were congregating on any beach where surfers were to be found, offering the service of a Balinese Massage. The recipient just lying prone on his towel or just sprawled on the sand. After having battled the surf for hours, it was the perfect way to unwind and relax. These massages are still seen today, being performed on every beach in Bali. If a beach attracts tourists then it will sooner or later also attract women from the local village offering Balinese Massage to supplement their family income. The charge is mostly as a result of supply and demand, otherwise called 'bargaining', but $US 5-10 would be the most common range, for a one hour massage.

The word Spa may have originally been taken from the Latin, although it is generally accepted that the modern meaning of the word originates from the mineral spring city of Spa, in Belgium. As the famed site of healing hot springs, Spa has been frequently used as a watering-place since the early 14th century. Though other sources of healing hot springs have become famous throughout the world, it is the town of Spa which has become eponymous with any place having a natural water source, that is believed to possess special health-giving properties. As a generic term, the word 'spa' may also refer to a resort hotel, usually located near a source of mineral water or hot spring - which offers hot-tub or similar warm-water hydro-massage facilities.

The words 'Massage Parlour' had so many other connotations that the word 'spa' has quickly become the healthy norm for all such activity, combining massage with many other forms of body treatment. Any mineral waters now used, most commonly coming from a bottle.

The Spas of Bali have quickly progressed, from local salons with a massage room in back, to the stage where every major hotel has an operating spa, many of which are magnificient. Some are beachside, others in mountain retreats or overlooking idyllic mountain rivers and streams. Enormous, and very expensive, Spa Villa Complexes are now sprouting everywhere, particularly in the mountain and river valley areas surrounding Ubud.

Coming of Age was the recent opening of the incredible Como Shambhala Spa at Begawan Giri, north of Ubud. It is one of the world's great spas.
